MMA Sun 2014 Prospect Spotlight: The Female Strawweights – #6– Randa Markos Thomas

Our number 6 female strawweight prospect is Randa Markos Thomas.  One of the top female fighters in Canada, she has a 3-1 career Randa-Markosprofessional record and also went 7-2 as an amateur.  Thomas is 28-years old.  I believe that she could be a potential TUF 20 cast member and if not has to be on UFC’s radar.

Randa really gained some attention in her loss to Justine Kish at RFA 12. While she did not walk away with a victory she walked away with respect. She showed incredibly toughness and will to win. While toughness in itself cannot make someone an elite fighter, when mixed with skills it certainly is an advantage. There is no quit in her. Even on the brink of defeat, she nearly finished Kish with an armbar of her own.  She has a very slick armbar, which she has used to finish 2 of her professional fights.  Her striking and grappling are very competent.  Randa is very aggressive.  Sometimes that can get her in trouble in fights.  Her go to submission really is her armbar.  She has a win on her resume over the tough Alianna Jones.  It also appears she has done some amateur boxing.  However, it seems that she really excels in the grappling department.  She impresses in transitions and is always a submission threat.

I would imagine that the RFA fighter has turned some heads with a very good performance against Kish.  She has a very solid resume in her own right.  She is another fighter that I think the UFC could look at for the Ultimate Fighter.  I do not feel she is very far away from being world class.  She has continued to improve.  She is fun to watch.  She is skilled.   She is a name to remember.
