5 Welterweights I Expect UFC to Sign in 2017

The UFC’s welterweight division is the deepest division in the UFC.  Last year, UFC signed 17 welterweight fighters tostorley the roster.  I fully expect UFC to continue to target the best welterweight prospects in 2017.  There are several names that would be good additions to the division.   There is a rumored season of the Ultimate Fighter coming up that wll feature welterweights.  However, the show will feature former UFC or TUF contestants.  The rumored cast includes Jesse Taylor, Gilbert Smith, Mike Ricci, Ramsey Nijem, Eddie Gordon and Dhiego Lima.  I would assume that could slow down what UFC will look to do in the welterweight division.  However, the names listed below are fairly good options.   The UFC always seems to like to find talent in the welterweight division.  While there are several rising stars in the division, I believe that there are UFC level fighters knocking on the door of the UFC.  These are the guys that I think could be next on the list.

  1. Logan Storley – Storley The former national champion wrestler out of Minnesota University may be the top welterweight prospect.    He is currently training MMA at Power MMA in Gilbert, AZ alongside Ryan Bader and company.  Storley may not quite be ready for the top tiered welterweights, but I do not believe it will take long for him to get there.  He is just 4-0 in his mixed martial arts career, but I expect that by the end of the year the UFC will come calling.  It will be interesting to see what LFA does next with Logan.  He needs a couple solid named victories to get his call.
  2. Mukhamed Berkhamov – Mukhamed is 10-0 and only 22 years old.  I really like him as a prospect.  He looked great in his victory over UFC veteran Jesse Taylor.  I am not sure he is the next guy to get the UFC call, but he has to be firmly on the UFC’s radar.
  3. James Nakashima – Nakashima could be the first on this list to sign with the UFC.  I would not be surprised to see him be a late notice call up on a upcoming card.  Nakashima trains at the Lab with the likes of Benson Henderson.  I think he could be a welcome addition to the UFC’s welterweight division.
  4. Karl Amoussou – Amoussou is on a six fight win streak.  He is scheduled to fight Matt Inman at a Cage Warriors event in February.  Should he win that fight, I firmly expect UFC to take a good like at Amoussou.  He is the one guy on this list who is a veteran.  Knowing his career it is somewhat surprising that the UFC has not come calling already.  I expect that to change in 2017.
  5. Muslim Salikhov – The King of Kung Fu is a bit older than some of the other guys on this list, but he would be a welcome addition to the division.  He has very good and unique striking ability.  The truth is, Salikhov may be making more money in Asia and Europe than he would in the UFC.  I would be surprised if UFC officials did not at least reach out to Salikhov sooner rather than later.

Others: Yaroslav Amosov, Ottman Azaitar, Bruno Lopes, Sharaf Davlatmurodov
