Aliakbari is our least experienced fighter in the sport of MMA, but he certainly is not inexperienced in martial arts.  He brings an elite wrestling pedigree to the table.  He was an Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler who is a two-time world champion.  He probably would have won gold medals in the Olympics had it not been for doping violations that resulted in a lifetime ban.  This ban certainly complicates things for his prospects of ever signing with UFC.   It is likely that USADA would uphold the lifetime ban imposed upon him, even in the sport of mixed martial arts.  With that said, he is currently signed with Rizin and is fighting in their Grand Prix.  Given his wrestling background, I believe that Aliakbari can be a high level mixed martial artists.  He is currently training at AKA Thailand around some very good fighters, who will also help develop his striking.    As you might expect, his wrestling and takedowns are top notch.  He can dictate where a fight takes place.  He also has very good top control.  For me, the only questions surrounding Amir are: Can he take a punch?  Can he evolve into a competent striker?  Also, what impact will his wrestling ban have on his MMA career?  I do not know if any U.S. promotion will take a chance on him, therefore he may stick around Rizin or even OneFC.  However, it will be interesting to see him evolve in mixed martial arts.
