Jeff Hughes is a heavyweight prospect who comes from the great state of Ohio.  Hughes is a big guy, he usually pushes the heavyweight limit of 265 pounds.  I do believe that he would be better served fighting around 245 pounds.  One of the first things about Hughes is that while he does not look athletic, he has some real athletic ability.  In fact, his finished one of his fights with a beautiful, highlight reel spinning back kick.  He does make good use of kicks throughout the fight.  Hughes has a little pop on his punches, but he does not have real knockout power in his hands.  He can however, do damage over time that can lead to a finish.  One thing that I noticed was that he is dangerous with his back against the cage.  He has also done a good job using overhooks to prevent takedowns.  I do have some concerns with how Hughes would do at the UFC level.  However, I also get the sense that he could be a guy that the UFC would target.  He has a good record and has good skills.  Good heavyweights are not easy to come by.  One other thing I would like to see is a step up in competition.  I think Hughes is 2-3 wins away from UFC offers and could be on the verge of offers from Bellator (which may not be a bad landing spot for Hughes).
